About Us
Mission
Faculty and students working in the Sport, Media & Culture Research Group examine through research, community outreach, and teaching how sport functions as a significant and widespread cultural force, with a specific emphasis on the connections between communication, media, and sport. Our research projects are varied and ongoing. Consult the Our Work page to learn more.
Faculty and Location
The Sport, Media & Culture Research Group operates out of the School of Social & Behavioral Sciences at Arizona State University and is co-directed by Drs. Jeff Kassing (bio) and Lindsey Meân (bio), leading researchers in the study of communication and sport and founding members of the International Association for Communication and Sport.
Drs. Kassing and Meân were instrumental in hosting and developing the Summit on Communication and Sport, which is an annual event that brings together faculty and professionals who study communication and sport. In fact, the first two Summits were held at ASU (see Summit History). In 2017, the Summit returned to ASU to mark the 10th Anniversary of the event.
Affiliated Faculty
In addition to the core faculty located at ASU, we work with faculty from other universities around the world on joint projects. Our affiliated faculty include:
Dr. Beth Fielding-Lloyd, Sheffield Hallum University (bio)
Dr. Jimmy Sanderson, Texas Tech University (bio)
